[:en]Dear parents,

As many of you are aware, CHS is a not-for-profit organization. Historically, CHS operated on an annual budget which essentially broke even or at a slight deficit. However, for the past several years, due to continued decrease in enrollments and reduction in donations, the school has been operating at a loss of over $10,000 each year. In spite of the different measures taken to increase enrollments and reduce operating expenses, the severe deficit continues.

The school budget has been a priority topic of discussion with the School Board on a number of occasions. In the most recent School Board meeting, evaluation of the situation left the Board with no alternative but to implement some changes in order to reduce part of the budget gap and create additional efficiencies in school operations. As a result, the following changes will be adopted, effective for the next (2017-2018) school year:

1. Tuition Increase – The new tuition will be $440 per student per school year (from the current $400).

2. Earlier Registration Due Date – The due date for registering for the next school year is moved up to June 30, 2017. A late fee of $15 will be incurred on registrations completed/paid after June 30, 2017. We want to encourage parents to register early to avoid the late fees. This will also allow the staff/teachers to be more effective in planning for the next school year.

3. Cultural Class minimum class size – We are planning to consolidate some of the cultural classes. We will require a minimum of 5 students to open a cultural class.

We hope that parents recognize the challenges faced by CHS and our efforts to provide quality Chinese education to your children. It is the intention of the Board to diligently continue efforts to reduce the deficit without jeopardizing the quality of learning at CHS.

Your understanding and support of our decision is greatly appreciated. We will be hosting a “town-hall” meeting this coming Saturday, 5/13/17, at 11 am, in the cafeteria, to answer any questions or concerns that you might have in regard to the school financials and upcoming changes. We encourage parents to attend the town hall meeting and stay engaged in CHS. We welcome your comments and suggestions.

Thank you!
