Language Classes

K1 – Kindergarten I
This course is for young children of age 4-6. The objective is to familiarize the children in a classroom setting. The students will learn to write 40 very simple Chinese characters and their meanings including their names. Sing along and arts and crafts are introduced.

K2 – Kindergarten II
This course is for young children of age 5-7. The objective is to familiarize the children in a classroom setting. The students will learn to write 80 very simple Chinese characters and their meanings. This class adds storytelling and concepts of family relations.

C1 – 1st Grade
This course is for young children of age over 6. The students will learn to recognize and write 80 Chinese characters and their meanings. The curriculum includes reading aloud, making simple sentences and conversations.

C2 – 2nd Grade
This course is for children of age over 7. The students will learn to recognize and write 100 Chinese characters and their meanings. The curriculum includes reading aloud, making simple sentences, antonyms and conversations.

C3 – 3rd Grade
This course is for children of age over 8. The students will learn to recognize and write 120 Chinese characters and their meanings. The curriculum includes reading aloud, making complex sentences, antonyms, recite, punctuation, journal writing and conversations.

C4 – 4th Grade
This course is for children of age over 9. The students will learn to recognize and write 140 Chinese characters and their meanings. The curriculum includes use of dictionary, making complex sentences, conjunctions, synonyms, recite, punctuation, journals, compositions and conversations.

C5 – 5th Grade
This course is for children of age over 10. The students will learn to recognize and write 150 Chinese characters and their meanings. The curriculum includes use of dictionary, making complex sentences, conjunctions and adjectives, recite, journal writing, extra reading materials, compositions and conversations.

C6 – 6th Grade
This course is for children of age over 11. The students will learn to recognize and write 160 Chinese characters and their meanings. The curriculum includes use of dictionary, making complex sentences, conjunctions, adjectives, and punctuation, recite, journal writing, extra reading materials, compositions and conversations.

C7 – 7th Grade
This course is for children of age over 12. The goal is to explore students’ knowledge in Mandarin and Chinese culture. The students will learn fundamental Mandarin. The curriculum includes Hanyu Pinyin, and reading comprehension, translation, simple sentences and conversations in Mandarin. In addition, Chinese art and culture will be taught in Cantonese. Based on the teachers’ evaluation in the previous year the students’ ability and interest, the curriculum may be adjusted to fit the needs.

C8 – 8th Grade
This course is for children of age over 13. The goal is to teach students more in Mandarin. The students will learn and practice more in Mandarin. In addition, Chinese art and culture will be taught in Cantonese. Based on the teachers’ evaluation in the previous year the students’ ability and interest, the curriculum may be adjusted to fit the needs.

C9 – 9th Grade
This course is for children of age over 14. It is an advanced class for Mandarin conversation. In addition, Chinese art and culture will be taught in Cantonese. Based on the teachers’ evaluation in the previous year the students’ ability and interest, the curriculum may be adjusted to fit the needs.

CSL – Chinese as Second Language
These courses are intended to teach the young children of age over 8 but lacking the required foundation or children of non-Chinese speaking family. The curriculum is specifically designed to introduce Chinese art, music, culture and history. The curriculum also includes learning simple Chinese characters, reading aloud and conducts daily life conversations. Grades 1 to 5 are offered, and the class will be taught in English and Cantonese.
